How to Flash a Hitachi 59 With JungleFlasher

The Hitachi Corporation supplies DVD drives for the Xbox 360. The v.59 Hitachi DVD drive in the Xbox 360 can be "flashed" with the free program JungleFlasher to run custom code and backup copies of game discs. Flashing your DVD drive changes the .BIN firmware file on the drive, letting you perform custom tasks. You can flash your Hitachi 59 DVD drive with JungleFlasher in about 20 minutes.

Things You'll Need

    • 4

Lift the DVD drive out of the console and unplug the red and black SATA cable from its rear. Disconnect the black and white power cable from the rear of the DVD drive, then connect your SATA cable from the DVD drive to your computer.

Turn on your computer and download JungleFlasher (see Resources). Run the program and select the Xbox 360 Hitachi 59 DVD drive from the main menu's drop-down bar.

Wait for the flash process to finish, then close the program and turn off your computer. Unplug the SATA cable from your computer to the Hitachi 59 DVD drive, then reconnect the SATA cable and power cable from the Xbox 360 to the DVD drive.

    • 8

Put the DVD drive back inside the Xbox 360 case, then close the metal cover and screw the Torx screws back in.

    • 9

Return the plastic outer case to its original position and snap the front faceplate back on the console. Reconnect any power cords and accessories before turning the Xbox 360 on again.
