Avatar Games for Xbox

Of the many games that exist for the Xbox 360 console from Microsoft, a few allow you to use your avatar in some way. These games are referred to as "avatar games" because of their ability to use an avatar. Varying types of games can be downloaded from Xbox's online service or purchased in stores.
  1. Avatars

    • Avatars are user-created people designed to be a digital representation of the player. All aspects of the avatar can be customized, including height, weight, hair color and facial features. You can even customize the clothes your avatar wears. Accessories such as hats and watches are available as well. By playing some retail games, such as "Red Dead Redemption," you can unlock rewards for your avatar. These rewards include items such as hats or toys with which your avatar can play.

    Avatar Games

    • Avatar games use avatars in different ways. This could be as simple as allowing a picture of your avatar to stand in as your representative during a game of cards or as complex as allowing you to manipulate your avatar through digital environments. You can even use the Kinect controller to manipulate your avatar. Every move you make is translated into a corresponding avatar movement. Certain games use this ability as well.

    XBLA and Retail

    • The Xbox Live Arcade, or XBLA, is an online collection of games that can be purchased, downloaded and played on the Xbox 360. These games are made by both prominent and novice developers, but are all vetted by the Entertainment Software Rating Board and rated according to their content. "Hardwood Hearts," "Hardwood Spades" and "Uno" allow you to use your avatar as your representative while playing online card games. "Bomberman" and "Kingdom for Keflings" are two other avatar-enabled XBLA games. "Kinect Adventures" and "Kinect Sports," two of the launch titles for Xbox 360's Kinect controller that are available as retail purchases, allow you to use avatars to control the on-screen action.

    Indie Games

    • Many independent games are available to download from the Xbox Live service. These games are not made by large companies or prominent developers, but instead by usually only a few, maybe even just one, person. They are also lower in price than regular XBLA games, but the standards for quality and content control are not as strict, because they are not reviewed by any kind of ratings board. Several independent games allow you to use avatars, including "Avatar Paintball," "Avatar Aquarium," "AvaGlide," "Avatar Alarm Clock" and "Avatar Bowling."
