The Materials Needed to Mod an Xbox 360 Controller

There are numerous kits and packages floating around the Internet on how to modify your Xbox 360 controller. The only downside is that many times, the kit contains only the core components such as momentary switches and resistors. The problem lies with the other necessary tools and items that are required to open and work on the controller.
  1. Screwdriver

    • All Xbox 360 controllers can be opened with a No. 1 Philips screwdriver. This is the most critical of the items you will need for any modification job; without the screwdriver, you will not be able to get to the device's critical components.

    Soldering Gun

    • There are many kits that require soldering components to the circuit board. Having a variable temperature soldering gun or a soldering iron is critical when doing more intricate and complicated modifications.

    Hot Glue Gun

    • To do jobs that require attaching components to the case, you will need a hot glue gun. Hot glue dries fast and is removable if items are improperly set. Glue guns are ideal for projects that call for placing LED lights in the controller.

    Wire Stripper/Pliers

    • When moving components off and on a circuit board inside the controller, you might need needle-nose pliers to get into those tight places where your fingers cannot reach. Some pliers come equipped with wire strippers, which will be useful when connecting components with wire.
