How to Mod Your XBL Avatar

Microsoft's Xbox Live -- or XBL -- service for the Xbox 360 console allows gamers to create cartoon-like representations of themselves, or avatars, for use in game play. You can modify these fully customizable creations from your Xbox 360 Dashboard, changing your avatar's physical appearance, clothing style and accessories. Mod your XBL avatar to reflect your personality or let your imagination roam with custom creations.

  Power on your Xbox 360 console to reach the system's Dashboard.

  Scroll to the Xbox Live tab, which prominently displays your gamer tag name and your current avatar, from the Dashboard. Press "A" to select this tab.

  Select "Customize Avatar" from the menu that appears.

  Press "A" to select "Change My Features" from the avatar menu. The resulting screen allows you to modify your avatar's hairstyle, eyes and eyebrows, facial structure, body size, hair color and facial features.

  Choose a feature you'd like to change. Once you've selected a feature from the screen, select one of the options -- for instance, a particular hairstyle or pair of eyes -- to use on your avatar.

  Press "B" to return to the previous menu screen at any time. Once you've modified your avatar's features to your liking, return to the main avatar screen.

  Select "Change My Style" to view and equip clothes for your avatar. From the "My Style" screen, you can mod your avatar's tops, bottoms, shoes, head wear, accessories and props. Press "A" to select the wardrobe, accessory and prop options of your choice.
