Tips for Viva Pinata for the Xbox 360

"Viva Pinata" is a simulation game in which you'll manage a garden. Living creatures in the form of piñatas live in the garden and are central to most of the game play. "Viva Pinata" is a sandbox-style game with no real victory or defeat conditions. There are objectives given to guide you through the mechanics of "Viva Pinata," but these are not enforced. This does not mean there are no hazards in the game -- Ruffians and Sour Piñatas can cause havoc in your garden if they're left unchecked.
  1. Ruffians

    • The only thing the Ruffians in "Viva Pinata" do is smash up your garden. Ruffians almost always come in pairs. There are a few different methods to deal with them and minimize the amount of damage they cause. If you catch the Ruffians entering the garden, give them 100 chocolate coins to bribe them to leave. Hitting them with the shovel after you've upgraded it scares them off. The Mallowolf pinata can howl at Ruffians to scare them off as well. Once you reach level 30, you can purchase the Captain's Cutlass statue. Ruffians won't enter your garden after you get this statue.

    Sour Pinata Taming

    • There are eight types of Sour Piñatas in "Viva Pinata." These piñatas all perform some destructive piece of mischief while they're in your garden. Unlike Ruffians, you can tame Sour Piñatas and remove their destructive tendencies. After taming one of the Sour Piñatas, you get a block for your "Tower of Sour." This block prevents any malicious Sour Piñatas of the species you tamed from showing up, but tamed versions will still appear. You can tame Sherbat by feeding it a Jack 'o Lantern. Shellybean is tamed by feeding it an Apple Seed. Tame Profitamole by feeding it a Red Flutterscotch after you get two mushrooms. Mallowolf is tamed by feeding it a Pigxie. Feed Macaraccoon a Cluckle after getting five Master Romancer awards to tame it. Tame Crowla by feeding it a bottle of medicine after you build a bird bath. Feed Cocoadile a Sweetooth and Swanana after getting 160 pinometers of water to tame it. Bonboon is tamed after he loses a fight to a Syrupent, Twingersnap or Fourheads.

    Fertilizer Color

    • Different kinds of fertilizer are distinguished by their color. In many cases, plants use fertilizers that are the same color as themselves, but this is not always the case. There is a way to find out what color fertilizer you should use for each plant. To identify the fertilizer color, feed a Taffly piñata a fruit from the plant in question. The special ability for the Taffly causes it to produce fertilizer after it eats a fruit. The color fertilizer that is produced by the Taffly always matches the plant that the fruit came from.

    "Longevity Master" Achievement

    • The "Longevity Master" achievement is the most difficult achievement for most "Viva Pinata" players to get. It requires playing the game for 50 hours total. Most players will have unlocked all of the other achievements and seen everything the game has to offer before this point. Leaving the game on unattended is not a useful option, because the game periodically prompts you when something occurs and pauses the game. There is a way around this. Open the "Tower of Sour" window in the game menu. "Viva Pinata" does not open prompts while the Tower of Sour window is open, but it continues to run the game timer. You can now leave the game unattended to get the "Longevity Master" achievement.
