How to Mod an Xbox 360 With a USB Cord

The Xbox 360 console is manufactured with an internal DVD drive which can be modified to run burned copies of games using software from the Internet. You can connect your Xbox 360 DVD drive to your computer for modification via a SATA cable that converts the data signal to the USB interface at one end (SATA-USB cable). Modding the Xbox 360's DVD drive with a USB cord with take about 25 minutes.

      Unplug all cables from the console and remove the faceplate from the front of the machine. Unclasp the plastic outer case from the system and remove it. Unscrew the Torx screw on the metal interior case and slide it open. Unplug the SATA cable from the DVD drive and connect the SATA end of your SATA-USB cable to the DVD drive. Connect the USB end of the SATA-USB cable to your computer and turn on your computer.

      Download and install an Xbox 360 modification program and run it. Select your Xbox 360's DVD drive from the program's main menu then click "Flash DVD Firmware." Click "OK" to confirm your choice and wait for the application to finish the DVD drive modification procedure.

      Turn off the computer and unplug the SATA-USB cable from it. Disconnect the SATA-USB cable from the Xbox 360 DVD drive and reconnect the SATA cable from the Xbox 360 to the DVD drive. Close the metal interior case and replace the Torx screws on its outside. Reconnect the outer plastic case to the console and replace the front faceplate. Plug in all power cables and accessories before turning the Xbox 360 on again.
