How to Test an Ethernet Adapter in an Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 includes a built-in Ethernet port that you can use to connect to your broadband Internet connection via modem or router. An Internet-connected Xbox has access to Xbox Live, the official multiplayer and content service for the Xbox 360. Although the Ethernet port is not removable, you can test the functionality of the port using the Xbox software.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Xbox 360. If it's not already connected, connect the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of the Xbox and connect the other end into the "Ethernet" port on your broadband (cable or DSL) modem or router.

    • 2

Turn on the Xbox. Select the "My Xbox" tab. Select "System Settings."

    • 3

Select "Network Settings." Select "Test Xbox Live Connection." If your Xbox is up to date, the test will begin, and you will know whether or not the Ethernet adapter works.
