How to Move Your Gamertag

Your Gamertag is your identity on the Xbox 360 gaming console. Your Gamertag is not only your name displayed in online games, but it also stores your profile, the achievements you have earned, your friends list and any downloadable content you have purchased. If you have a new console, the first thing to do is move your Gamertag. This can be done from the Xbox 360 dashboard when the system is turned on for the first time. In order to move your Gamertag, your Xbox 360 must be connected to a broadband Internet connection.

     Turn on your Xbox 360.

     Press the "Guide" button on your Xbox 360 controller without selecting a profile.

     Select "Recover Gamertag" from the "Home" tab.

     Enter the Windows ID and password associated with the Gamertag you wish to move.

     Press "A" on each screen and enter any information required. Recovering a Gamertag can take anywhere from two to 10 minutes, depending on the amount of information stored on your Gamertag.
