Lag
Lag is a performance issue that is especially annoying in first-person shooters. "Left 4 Dead" is a fast-paced game. When the screen lags, you move your character forward, but the screen freezes for a second or two before you move forward. This is just enough to throw you off your pace. This is usually an issue of lower-tier graphic cards not being able to handle the game.
Freezing
Freezing is a more serious form of lag. When the action stops on the screen, it does not come back on. Usually, the only option at this point is to reset the game. Sometimes, you may be able to get the game going again by removing the "Left 4 Dead" disc from the drive and reinserting it.
Audio Issues
On occasion, the sound effects in "Left 4 Dead" will not match up with the action on the screen. The voices will not sync up with the characters' lip movements, and the sound of the guns and zombies will be delayed. Like lag, this can be the result of a lower -grade sound card. Usually, you will have to pause and un-pause, or totally restart the game from the last checkpoint to rectify the problem.
Crashes
Total crashes are not uncommon with the PC version of "Left 4 Dead." When this occurs, the entire game goes down and is not recoverable. You will lose all unsaved data. In some cases, you may even have to reinstall the game. If the problem keeps occurring, check the developer's website for patches to fix the problem.
