How to Reach the Top of the Dam in Alan Wake

"Alan Wake" is a suspenseful horror thriller released on the Xbox 360 in 2010. The game's story follows its namesake, Alan Wake, as he discovers that one of his stories, one he has no memory of writing, has become real, infesting a remote village with unholy darkness. Alan must rely on sources of light, such as his trusty flashlight or flares, to defeat the darkness-infested creatures that beset him. During the events of the fifth episode, Alan and his friends must make their way through the woods to the top of a dam.

Instructions

- 1
  Complete the power station segment of the episode. After you escape the power station, you will find yourself back in the woods.

  Proceed along the wooded path, fending off any Taken you encounter. The encounters are straightforward, and standard tactics for defeating Taken should work fine. You will eventually meet up with your friends before coming to a wall with an elevator.

  Press the elevator call button located next to the closed elevator doors. The elevator will start to descend. Turn around and place your back to the door. Several Taken will come charging up the dark path you just left. Stay calm and use your flashlight and gun to defeat them. The elevator will reach the ground in about a minute.

  Continue up the wooded path until you come to a shut steel door. Slightly down the hill and to the right of the door will be a small button set into a brick wall. Hold the button down to let your friends through. You will be separated from them and must continue up the dam on your own.

  Defeat the poltergeist that attacks you from your left if you are facing the door. Use the stacking crates as cover while you shine your flashlight on the flying objects to disperse them.

  Advance through the hole in the gate created by the poltergeist. It will be to the left of the collapsed door.

  Follow the wooded path up the side of the mountain. You may be set upon by Taken while traversing the path. Keep your distance and use your flashlight and gun to protect yourself. You will come to a walkway and ladder leading to the top of the dam.

  Climb the ladder to reach the top. Immediately head to your left to pick up the flare and then run over to the spotlight.

  Use the spotlight to defeat the hoard of encroaching Taken. Overuse of the spotlight will cause it to overheat, leaving you vulnerable for a few seconds. Focus the spotlight in short bursts, allowing it to cool when the heat gauge reaches about halfway. If you get overwhelmed, run away from the spotlight and use a flare to clear some space before returning.

  Defeat the waves of Taken to complete this portion of the episode. You have reached the top of the dam and are now ready for the next step in Alan's adventure.
