How to Create a Halo 3 Map

Halo 3 is a science-fiction first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie. It is the third game in the popular Halo franchise and the first to be released on Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console. Alongside its comprehensive single player, multiplayer and theatre modes, Halo 3 also features the "Forge" which is an innovative map editor that allows users to design and create their own multiplayer maps to share with friends and players across Xbox Live.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the "Halo 3" game disc into the Xbox 360 and turn on.

    • 2

Highlight "Forge" in the main menu and press "A" on the Xbox controller. Set the map to "Foundry" and press "Start Forge" to load the map editor.

    • 3

Press up on the D-pad once the game loads to switch to the "Editor Mode," also known as "Monitor Mode." In this mode you can move freely around the map. You can revert back to the standard "Player Mode" at any time by pressing up on the D-pad, which is useful for quickly testing new additions to your map.

    • 4

Remove the standard objects in the "Foundry" level by positioning the crosshair over an object and pressing "Y" to delete. Once you have deleted everything you are ready to begin creating your own map.

    • 5

Press "X" to open the "Object Palette." You can cycle through the different palettes using the left and right bumpers on the Xbox controller. To spawn an object, highlight it using the left thumbstick and press "A." The object will appear within the map.

    • 6

Grab the object by highlighting it with the crosshair and pressing "A." When you move around the object will move with you, enabling you to place it wherever you want.

    • 7

Position the object using the left and right thumbsticks. To rotate the object, hold down the right trigger and move the right thumbstick left or right to turn it. Moving the right thumbstick up or down allows you to roll the object.

    • 8

Release the right trigger and set the object by pressing "A."

    • 9

Repeat the process to add more objects and create your own level. Once complete, save your map by pressing the "Start" button and selecting "Save As New Map..." from the menu. Provide a name and press "Done" to save.
