How to Level Quick in COD: WAW

Released in November 2008, "Call of Duty: World at War," represents the fifth first-person shooter in the "Call of Duty" franchise, continuing the tradition of expansive online multiplayer gaming established by "Modern Warfare" in 2007. Central to the multiplayer experience in "World at War" is a leveling system that rewards players for online accomplishments with experience points (XP). With 60 levels (or ranks) and a cyclical "prestige" mode, leveling up fast is a priority for any player looking to unlock the full experience of the multiplayer game.

Instructions

  1. Sensitivity Adjustment

    • 1

Enter an online match and press the "start" button.

    • 2

      Select "options," then "controls."

    • 3

Increase the "look sensitivity" from the "medium" pre-set. Higher analog sensitivity will let you react to enemies more quickly, either through faster turning or aim adjustment. The sensitive controls may take some getting used to, but you will be competing online with other players who have already mastered them. One of the principal ways to increase your XP and level up quicker is with a high ratio of kills to deaths, so it's crucial you can compete on this level.

    Avoid Patterns

    • 4

Sprint in an unpredictable zig-zag style as you enter a large open area. Running straight, sitting still or moving in a predictable pattern in a situation like this will allow enemies to pick you off from a long distance.

    • 5

Jump forward, left or right to throw off anyone tracking your movements. Jumping in random intervals will force enemies to make quick y-axis adjustments on their aim, giving you an opportunity to dodge and gain the upper hand.

    • 6

Seek the first available cover. Speeding through open areas can be disorienting if you successfully mix up your patterns of movement. Taking cover will allow you to asses the direction of any incoming fire and plot a new route. Again, gaining XP is mostly about offensive advantage and reducing your deaths.

    Challenges

    • 7

Choose "challenges" from the main online menu and scroll through to see which ones you've yet to complete. Completing challenges will reward you with hundreds to thousands of XP, depending on their difficulty.

    • 8

Choose a single challenge and complete it. Once you've gained the XP, select a new challenge. Coupled with a strong offense, completing as many challenges as possible will significantly increase your level-up speed.

    • 9

Select a weapon you haven't tried yet. Although choosing a weapon with which you're comfortable and proficient is key to maintaining a high kill-count, over-using a certain gun will prevent you from completing other weapon-specific challenges loaded with XP. Weapon challenges are awarded based on factors like number of kills and head-shots with every weapon. After you've exhausted one, equip another and continue to collect its challenge XP.
