How to Clean Xbox 360 When It Says Clean Disc with Soft Cloth

Examine your game disc, CD or DVD for any minor scratches or smudges that can keep the disc from playing properly by making it hard for the Xbox 360 DVD-ROM lens to read. Hold the disc by its edges (staying free from its surface) and use a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened in water, to wipe from the center edges to the outside edges in straight lines. (Do not wipe around the disc, along the grooves.) When you are finished, allow the disc to dry if it is still slightly damp from the cloth. Afterward, place the disc back in your Xbox 360 and try playing it again. If it does not play, try playing a different disc to see if the problem is with the disc or with your console. If other discs will not play, try clearing the cache of your Xbox 360.

Press "A" on "My Xbox" and "A" on "System Settings" to clear the cache from your Xbox 360. Cursor onto a storage device such as the "Hard Drive" and press "Y" on it to access the menu. Scroll down to "Clear Cache" and press "A" to clear the cache on your Xbox 360. (Cache files are temporary files that allow your Xbox to launch programs quicker, though if the cache is full performance will lag.) If your Xbox still cannot play the discs, you will need to remove your Xbox 360's hard drive.

Turn the Xbox 360 on its side so that it is horizontal. Look for the hard disk release cover on the back right side of the console. Use your fingers to slide the release of the cover toward the front of the Xbox 360 console so that the cover pulls off. Pull on the tab of the Xbox 360's hard drive to pull it out of the console. Remove any memory units or USB drives from the console as well. Turn the Xbox 360 on and insert a game disc, DVD or CD to see if it plays. If it does, place the hard drive back into the Xbox 360 console. If this does not fix the problem, you will need to either replace the disc you are using or contact Xbox Support to have your console repaired.
