How to Get My 360 an HDMI Port If It Doesn't Have One

The Xbox 360 console is a high-definition gaming console and media center manufactured by Microsoft. All Xbox 360 models are designed to function with standard definition televisions using composite cables and high-definition televisions with component cables. Xbox 360 consoles produced before the fall of 2007 did not include a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) output, which provides the highest-quality high-definition video and audio in a single cable. If your Xbox 360 console does not have an HDMI port, you can purchase an adapter that plugs into the Xbox 360's proprietary audio/video port.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the MadCatz Xbox 360 HDMI Conversion Kit. The kit is available from many online sources, including MadCatz's website, for approximately $90.

    • 2

Plug the MadCatz Xbox 360 HDMI Conversion adapter into the audio/video port on the rear of the Xbox 360.

    • 3

Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI output on the MadCatz Xbox 360 HDMI Conversion adapter.

    • 4

Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your television.

    • 5

Plug the optical audio cable into the optical audio output on MadCatz Xbox 360 HDMI Conversion adapter if desired. The HDMI cable carries a stereo audio signal, so if you would like to receive a 5.1 surround output, you must use the optical audio cable. If you are satisfied with stereo audio, or do not have a home theater system with an optical audio input, skip this step.

    • 6

Plug the optical audio cable into the optical audio input on your home theater system.

    • 7

Turn on the Xbox 360, television and home theater system.

    • 8

Set the television and home theater system to the HDMI input and optical audio inputs respectively. Press the "Input" or "Source" button on each device's remote until the correct input is set.
