How to Find Treasure in Red Dead

Finding the hidden treasure in "Red Dead Redemption" is considered one of the most difficult tasks in the game. It can be difficult to decipher the images on the maps to work out where the treasures are hidden. Even though the game can be completed without collecting any of the hidden chests, they contain treasures that will give players accomplishment points or trophies.

Instructions

    • 1

Ride around the outskirts of the various towns on the game until you locate the treasure hunter. The hunter mission is random and can be triggered anywhere at any point during the game.

    • 2

Shoot and kill all of the bandits attacking the treasure hunter. A cut-scene will instantly begin where you are talking to the hunter. As a reward, the treasure hunter will give you your first treasure map.

    • 3

Access your menu screen and select your "Inventory." Select the "Treasure Map 1. The map will contain an image of two huge rocks with a tree in between them with the words "The Hanging Rock."

    • 4

Ride to the northeast corner of the map. Walk next to the biggest of the two rocks and you will see a hidden path. Follow the path to locate the chest. The chest contains gold and a second treasure map.

    • 5

Ride to the city of "Rio Bravo." Head over to the trail at the southeast of the city near Fort Mercer. Follow the path to the top of the hill. The chest is underneath an overhanging rock.

    • 6

Go to the town of Tumbleweed. Enter the abandoned mansion and shoot all of the gang members. The chest is in the mansion's basement.

    • 7

Complete the main storyline until you can reach Mexico. Head to the small trail next the river bank of "Chuparosa." The fourth treasure chest is near a pile of rocks close to a tree with skulls hanging from it.

    • 8

Head south from "Chuparosa." Check the map for an image of a three pronged cacti near the town. Head to the cacti and climb the biggest of the two rocks near it. Use the rock to open the treasure chest found here.

    • 9

Go south until you reach "Ojo del Diable." Follow the road left out of the town until you see the chest underneath a hanging rock. Use the game map to find "Roca de Madera." Go west from the town to a tall mountain. Climb it and follow the ledge at the top of the mountain to locate the seventh chest.

    • 10

Complete the main storyline to reach areas with the eighth and ninth treasure chests. Go to "Beecher's Hope" on the map and you will see the words "Broken Tree." Set a marker to that location. Once you reach that area, look for a tree that seems as though it has been split by lightning. Check the wall next to the tree to find the chest.

    • 11

Go to "Tall Trees" on the map. Go right from the words to a small path that runs along the side of the mountain. Follow the path to a small cave. The final chest is in the back of the cave.
