Dead or Alive 3 Tips

"Dead or Alive 3," released in 2001 for the Xbox, is notable for its polished 3D graphics and complex battle arenas. In addition to its single-player mode, "Dead or Alive 3" lets players fight against each other. You can turn to several different strategies to beat your opponents.
  1. Environment

    • "Dead or Alive 3" features sprawling arenas. These battlefields are replete with danger zones, including spiked floors and electrically charged fences. When fighting, do your best to knock your opponents into these treacherous terrains, as doing so will score bonus damage. Ideally, you'll knock them off their feet in the process, so that they suffer persistent damage while they get back up. In addition to the harmful terrain, "Dead or Alive 3" levels have multiple platforms. When you knock an opponent off of a high platform, he receives additional damage when he lands on the ground below.

    Fall Recovery

    • Periodically, your character will fall on his back. This happens when he's the target of particular moves or when he receives several hits in a short period of time. Lying prone is dangerous in "Dead or Alive 3," since you're vulnerable to special attacks from your opponent. By pressing back and the punch button just before you hit the ground, your character will immediately spring to his feet. This is the fastest way to recover. Otherwise, press the punch or kick button after you've already fallen. You'll then rise in place, though not as quickly.

    Juggling

    • Sometimes, you'll knock your opponent into the air. While he's flying, he's defenseless, and you can use this opportunity to score additional hits. This process is called juggling. It's most effective against lightweight characters -- heavy ones such as Bass and Leon will fly up just a little bit, giving you less opportunity to hit them. To initiate a juggle, you must launch the opponent into the air using a throwing move. Each character has one or more throwing maneuvers; some are based on kicks and others are based on punches and grapples.

    Special Tag-Ins

    • One of the game modes in "Dead or Alive 3" is called "Tag Team." You control two characters, but only one is active at a time, and you can freely rotate between these characters. In the process, you can also execute special tag-ins. These maneuvers cause damage to the opponent and rotate to the playable character at the same time. The tag-in commands vary depending on the character combination, but you can activate the vast majority by simultaneously pushing the "Free" button and "Punch" button. If that doesn't work for your particular characters, try pushing the "Free" and "Punch" buttons while holding forward or backward.

    Secret Character

    • You can unlock the secret character Ein by completing the single-player campaign with each character. Then, play as Hayate in Survival Mode. If you beat at least three opponents, enter the initials "EIN" for your score. From then on, you can play as Ein in any game mode except for Story Mode.
