The Heat Sink on My Xbox 360 Is Not Working

Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console goes beyond gaming by not only allowing you to play video games but also access the Internet as well as watch videos. Like other gaming consoles and electronic devices, the Xbox 360 console features a heat sink unit that transfers heat generated within its enclosure. The console has the tendency to overheat if the heat sink cannot dissipate the heat quickly enough.

Instructions

  1. Relocate the Xbox

    • 1

Turn off the Xbox 360 console. Disconnect the AC adapter from the main switch and remove any cables that may be connected to the devices.

    • 2

Remove the console from its current location. If it is an enclosed unit, take it out.

    • 3

Find a suitable space to relocate the console to where it can have enough space to dissipate heat. A spacious area with enough air flow, such as near a fan or air conditioning unit, may be preferable. Keep relocating the Xbox 360 until you find the most conducive space.

Invest in an External Cooling Unit

    • 4

Visit a video game shop or browse an online game shop for an Xbox 360 cooling fan unit (see Resources).

    • 5

Select a particular make depending on your needs and purchase it.

    • 6

Follow the instructional manual that comes with the cooling unit to connect it with your Xbox 360 console. Make sure the unit is turned off before attempting to fix the cooling unit. Switch on the console and play for a period of time to see if the heat sink problem still persists.

    Request for Repair

    • 7

Open your Internet browser and browse to the Xbox 360 website found in the resources section.

    • 8

Click on "Start a Repair Request." Log into your Windows Live account when prompted to do so. If you don't have an account, create one to log in.

    • 9

Register your Xbox 360 console by filling in the form with the necessary information found on the console. Follow through with the "Repair Request" by typing the necessary information needed to send your console to the Xbox 360 repair center.

    • 10

Box the console and add the postage print provided during the repair request. Send the package to the post office to be mailed. Wait and check your email regularly for email updates from the repair center once it receives and begins work on the heat sink problem of your Xbox 360 console.
