How to Open an XBox for Overheating

An XBox 360 can overheat and fail just like a PC. Overheating is often caused by placing the XBox 360 in a poorly ventilated area, but can also be caused by internal problems. An XBox 360 with a malfunctioning cooling fan or internal dust build-up can also overheat. You can open the XBox yourself to blow out dust or increase airflow, but opening the Xbox 360 voids your warranty. If your device is still under warranty, contact Microsoft about the overheating problem.

Lift up the front of the bottom shell an inch.

    • 11

Push a thin, small plastic or metal stick into the holes on the back of the XBox and apply a small amount of pressure until each latch is unlocked.
