How to Calibrate the Kinect Sensor for Your Xbox 360 Video Game Console

The Xbox 360's newest accessory, the Kinect, is a sensor bar with a video camera that allows your game console to detect your movements and use them during game play. This allows you to dance, jump and interact in your games like never before. However, before being able to play a Kinect-enabled Xbox 360 video game, you will need to calibrate your Kinect for use.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Guide" button on your controller. This is the lighted circular button in the middle of your Xbox 360 game controller, and it will bring up your Guide menu.

    • 2

Scroll down to "Kinect Tuner," and select it.

    • 3

Select "Calibration" from the next menu.

    • 4

Grab your Xbox 360 Kinect calibration card. This comes with your Kinect system, but if you do not have one, contact Xbox customer service to get a replacement. This is a white card with a smiley face preprinted on it.

    • 5

Hold the card up, facing the Kinect sensor. Using the image of the glasses on the screen, tilt and move the calibration card accordingly to line up the eyes on the calibration card with the glasses on the screen.

    • 6

Hold the card in the proper position until the Xbox 360 Kinect recognizes the image and displays the "Calibration Complete" screen. Your Xbox 360 will then save your calibration settings, and you will be able to play a Kinect-enabled video game on your system.
