Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Screw Problem

The Xbox 360 utilizes a wireless controller to control the console. The controller runs off of either 2 AA batteries or an optional rechargeable battery pack. If the controller is not working properly, you may need to open it up to fix the problem. To do this, you must have the correct screwdriver, as the controller does not use conventional screws.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the Torx T8 Security screwdriver to unscrew the screws on the back of the Xbox 360 controller. The screws have a star pattern with a security notch in the middle, which only the Torx T8 Security can open without damaging the controller.

    • 2

Twist the screwdriver counter-clockwise to loosen the screws. The screws may be tight, so you might have to muscle them loose. Turning clockwise tightens the screw and can strip it if you tighten it too much.

    • 3

Remove all seven screws to open the controller. Six of them are clearly visible on the back of the controller, while the seventh is hidden under the serial code sticker inside the battery bay of the controller.
