How to Troubleshoot an XBox With Xecuter2

Xbox 360 consoles are manufactured by Microsoft and equipped with internal motherboards that can be modified with "modchips" (like Xecuter2) that run custom code and allow players to run backup copies of games. Xbox 360 consoles are prone to overheating and the Xecuter2 chip adds more heat stress to the console. You can troubleshoot and remove the heat stress inside the console by replacing the thermal paste that conducts heat away from the console's internal microchips.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx screwdriver (size 7)

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug any power cables and accessories from the Xbox 360. Remove the front faceplate and unclasp the plastic tabs on the console's outer plastic case. Remove the plastic case and unscrew the Torx screws on the metal interior case. Slide open the metal cover and unplug the SATA cable from the Xbox DVD drive to the Xbox motherboard. Lift the DVD drive out of the console and locate the large metal heatsinks that rest on top of each chip.

Unscrew the metal heat sinks and lift them off each chip. Squeeze a pea-sized dab of thermal paste on to the top of each chip and spread it evenly over its surface. Return the heat sinks to their original position and reattach them. The new thermal paste inside the Xbox will remove the internal heat stress and repair any errors the Xbox is displaying.

Return the DVD drive to its original position and reconnect the SATA cable from the DVD drive to the Xbox motherboard. Close the metal interior case and reattach the Torx screws. Return the outer plastic case to its original position and replace the front faceplate. Reconnect any power cables and accessories to the console before powering it on again.
