How to Restore an Xbox's BIOS

When you are planning to sell your Xbox 360 to someone it can be helpful to clear all of the setting changes you've made to the system. By restoring the Xbox's BIOS, you can reset the Xbox console to its factory settings. Once you reset the Xbox BIOS you will no longer have your settings configured, and they must be set up again for a new user. Settings that are cleared in the process include network and security settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Xbox 360 console and then unplug the Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter from the USB port.

    • 2

Turn your console back on and then use your Xbox 360 controller to select the "My Xbox" option.

    • 3

Select the "System Settings" option and then "Network Settings." Click on the "Wired Network" option and then select "Configure Network."

    • 4

Click the "Additional Settings" tab and then select the "Restore to Factory Defaults" option. Turn off your console again.

    • 5

Plug the Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter back into the USB port. Click the "My Xbox" option and then select the "System Settings" option.

    • 6

Select the "Wired Network" option or the name of your wireless network, and then select the "Test Xbox LIVE Connection" option. Your Xbox will be connected to the Internet and returned to its factory settings.
