Things You'll Need
Instructions
Unscrew the Torx screw on the underside of the Xbox 360 controller and take it apart.
Cut out some of the middle of the Xbox 360 controller dome piece with scissors. Cut out pieces to allow the LED lights to fit into the dome piece better. Leave a small "+" sign in the middle of the dome to help you determine the manner in which to install the LED lights.
Fill the Xbox 360 dome about three-quarters of the way with hot glue using a hot glue gun. Place the LED lights in to the Xbox 360 controller dome piece with the long legs first. Insert the long legs of the LED lights into the corners of the dome piece. Place the long legs of the LED lights closet to the corners of the "+" that you made in the dome piece.
Fold the legs of the LED lights so that they form a ring where the legs of the LED lights touch one another. Leave a space between the larger pieces of the tabbed button.
Solder the inner and outer legs of the LED lights where the joints meet.
Cut a wire that is 6 inches in length and solder it to the inside LED lights ring with a soldering iron. Align the wire so that it is placed over the keyed tabs.
Cut a piece of wire 6 inches in length and solder it to the outside LED light ring with your soldering iron.
Place the wires above the bigger keyed tabs.
Connect the LEDs with the parallel LED lights you wired using a resistor. Fill the remaining space with hot glue. Do not fill the button past the "+" in the center.
Smooth the inside of the button out with an X-acto knife. Use the butt of the knife to gently smooth the hot glue after its dried to a smooth edge.
Insert the Xbox 360 dome piece into the Xbox 360 controller and guide the wires back through so that they are going through the button area through the large gaped area in the status ring. Tuck the extra wires into the controller cracks inside the controller.
Turn over the Xbox 360 controller PCB board and find the USB cable contacts that are on the PCB board. Make note of which contact is red and which one is black. Use the red positive lead to connect to the resistor. Attach the positive wire to the resistor from the guide button. Connect the wire from the guide button to the black negative lead of the controller.
Connect the resistors together with the hot glue gun and to make sure nothing shorts.
Plug the controller back into the USB port.
Plug the buttons back into the controller, the rubber contact pads, thumb stick, the directional pad, the front and back pieces. Attach the PCB board onto the top case. Put the rumble motors back into their designated position and verify that the wires are out of the way when putting the controller cover back on. Screw the controller cover back on.
Turn on your Xbox. Your controller dome should light up the color of your LED lights.
