How to Change an Xbox From 220 to 110

Xbox consoles are region locked, or, in other words, built for specific countries or regions. If you use your Xbox in another region than the one it was designed for, you run the risk of damaging your Xbox. The two biggest obstacles for using your Xbox in a different region are differences in voltage, 110V or 22V, and the television encoding system your Xbox is designed for, NTSC, PAL or SECAM.

Check if your Xbox is built for a region that runs on 220 volts. Look at the sticker on the side of your Xbox. The bottom section of the sticker provides information on the region it was manufactured for, and the top section tells you which television encoding system you need. If your Xbox is manufactured for a country other than the United States or Canada, it likely will run on 220 volts. Travelproducts.com offers an electricity guide to check the voltage used in each region (see Resources).

Connect an Xbox power supply adapter to your console. Check that the power supply adapter converts from 220 to 110 and not 110 to 220. You can also try with a regular voltage converter or transformer, but Xbox-specific power supply adapters also provide an extra protection from surges and irregularities in voltage that can damage your console.

Connect the power supply adapter to the outlet, and switch on your Xbox.
