How to Fix an XBox 360 When it Says All Disks Are Unreadable

Disc read errors such as the "All Disks Are Unreadable" error message can prevent owners from operating the Xbox 360 console. There are a number of reasons one may run into the "All Disks Are Unreadable" error message, including a dirty disc, faulty disc drive or a storage device that is interfering with the use of the disc. Troubleshooting this error message can help resolve the many issues that can prevent the console from operating normally.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the disk for any smudges, fingerprints or debris. If the disc appears dirty, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the disc clean. Wipe the disc from the center and towards the outer edge of the disc.

    • 2

Load the Xbox 360 with another disc that is free of debris and smudges. Look for the "NTSC" label on the disc to verify that it is made for use on North American Xbox 360 consoles. If the error still appears with other discs, remove the disc from the Xbox 360.

    • 3

Clear the Xbox 360's system cache. At the Dashboard, go to My Xbox and select System Settings. Select Memory and then highlight your storage device. Press Y on the controller and select Clear System Cache. Insert a clean Xbox 360 disc and attempt to load a game or movie.

    • 4

Turn off the Xbox and remove all memory devices, including hard drives and USB flash drives from the console. Turn on the console and insert a clean disc into the console.

    • 5

Send the Xbox 360 to an authorized repair center if the above steps do not solve the problem. The disc drive itself may be defective and it can be replaced by Microsoft under warranty or for a fee if the console is beyond its warranty period.
