How Do I Access the Tilde Dev-Console on All Xbox 360 Games?

PC gamers who like to use cheat codes will be familiar with the ability in some games to open up a developer command console (often referred to as "devmode") by pressing the tilde (~) key. Those who are switching over to the Xbox 360 may hope to find a similar option. While cheats and cheat modes are options in some games, not all will have this feature available, and those that do will not have a devmode comparable to a PC. However, there are a few different ways in which cheat codes manifest within bgames.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Options" menu, either from the main menu or the pause menu. Some games, such as "The Force Unleashed 2," will have a visible option to enable cheat codes right there in the menu. As with PC games, the game itself will not tell you what codes are necessary to unlock secret items or abilities. Seek out a list of cheat codes online for your particular game.

Look around for cheat codes available in game. For example, in "Red Dead Redemption," hidden cheat codes are written at the end of the miscellaneous section of the newspaper. Entering these codes can grant invincibility, infinite ammo, horses that never tire and other such abilities.

Use controller codes to enable cheats. This classic method of cheating hearkens back from the days of the Konami Code (a universal cheat code present in many console games from the mid-1980s). Many games still have controller codes, such as "Halo: Reach" (a code exists for faster melee) and "Fable III" (pressing the correct commands will result in infinite gold). As with text cheat codes, controller cheats vary for every game.
