How to Update Xbox Without Live

The most straightforward way to update the dashboard software on your Xbox 360 is to do so by logging in to your Xbox Live account. Once logged in, you are automatically prompted to update this software if any updates are in fact available. If your Xbox 360 isn't connected to the Internet or you don't have an Xbox Live account, there are a few other ways that you can update this all important software.

Plug your USB flash drive into one of the USB ports on your Xbox 360. If you used a blank CD, put the CD into your Xbox 360 like you would a regular game disc. This will update the software on your Xbox 360 without using Xbox Live.
