The DVD Remote Won't Connect to an XBox 360

You sit down to watch a movie on your XBox 360 and press the button, but nothing happens. Like its predecessor, the XBox 360 allows users to watch DVD movies. Instead of using the console menu and a controller, it uses a special media remote. There are certain conditions that can cause the remote to fail to connect, so if you are experiencing connection issues, you'll have to troubleshoot.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure you are standing no further than 10 feet from the console. Beyond this distance, the signal may be too weak to connect. Make sure you are pointing the remote directly at the console.

    • 2

Check the batteries in the remote. Turn the remote over and you will find a small door with a latch. Press down on the latch and pull to reveal the battery compartment. Remove the two AA batteries and replace them with fresh batteries.

    • 3

Remove any obstructions that may be covering the XBox 360's infrared port. The remote uses an infrared beam that requires a line of sight connection to the console.

    • 4

Replace the faceplate on the console if the window over the infrared port is damaged. Replacement XBox 360 faceplates are available at video game stores or online.
