How to Fix an Xbox 360 With a System Error

System errors on a Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console can be determined by looking at the four rings located around the 360's power button. These rings will turn on with a red tint when there's a problem. Different combinations of red-tinted rings mean that there are different problems stopping the Xbox 360 from working. Problems can range from the cables connected to the back of the system not being plugged in correctly to the system overheating.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the AV cables if all four rings on the Xbox 360 are lighting up. If the cables are connected, unplug them and plug them back in. Tighten all connections on the console.

Restart the Xbox 360 if the bottom two rings and the top left ring are lighting up. This error could be a system that froze and a simple restart will fix it. If this does not work, turn the system off. Press the button at the front of the hard drive and pull out the hard drive with your hands. Unplug all cables from the back of the system. Snap the hard drive back into place. Plug the cables back into the slots they were in. Turn the Xbox 360 on.

Turn the Xbox 360 off if the two left rings are lighting up. This means that the system is too hot and needs to be cooled down before use.
