Things You'll Need
Instructions
Disassemble the Xbox using the Xbox case opening tool.
Desolder the front USB ports, memory card inputs, hard drive connector, and Ethernet/USB ports. Heat the leads of the capacitors at the bottom of the motherboard, and gently push on the capacitors to flatten them to the board.
Slice a seam in the Wi-Fi module with your precision knife. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the module and twist the screwdriver to open the Wi-Fi module. Solder a piece of ribbon cable to the USB port's pins. Split the Wi-Fi module's antenna wire in half from the center with scissors. Remove the plastic layer of the inner wire and solder the shielding wire into one piece, and solder the connecting wires to the cut wires. Repeat at the other side of the wire to reattach the "snap" connector.
Use a Dremel tool to remove the extended plastic protrusions under the DVD drive. Split the DVD drive's SATA cable in half, remove the covering and solder some ribbon cable to the SATA cable. Do the same with the other half. Reconnect the SATA cables at the new ribbon cable for an extended length SATA cable.
Slice the DVD drive's power connection in half and strip off the plastic at the ends of the power connection wires. Apply some solder to the ends of the cut wire. Solder five inches of ribbon cable to the stripped power connection ends and connect the power cable together just like the extended SATA cable in Step 4.
Remove the wires from the hard drive and solder the blue, white and yellow wires together. Next, solder the black, green and orange wires together. Remove the foil from the wires and solder the ribbon cable to the ends of the wires and to the motherboard.
Cut ventilation holes into an aluminum plate with the precision knife. This plate will be the bottom plate of the portable Xbox. Configure an outer wall Xbox case using Sinatra/Komatex plastic. Cut inserts for anything that needs to go into the Xbox, including USB ports, memory cards, Ethernet cable, DVD drive, the power adapter and A/V cables. Weld the acrylic lining to the top of the outer wall casing to make the "lip" of the portable Xbox. Repeat these steps in reverse for the top half of the portable Xbox casing.
Snap open the back of your widescreen monitor using a screwdriver. Remove the four screws from the Xbox power supply "brick." Connect the monitor power supply to the Xbox power supply by soldering the two wires together. Lay the monitor power supply over the Xbox power supply. Weld an aluminum strip to the exposed half of the Xbox power brick. Cut just enough room to fit the AC port and power cable through the power supply brick, using the Dremel tool. Reattach the top half of the brick using size 4 screws.
Open your USB keyboard with a screwdriver. Solder the female headers to the USB hub ports on the Xbox circuit board. Connect ribbon cable to the male headers and USB connection. Connect the USB connections together.
Combine the monitor AV connections to the Xbox video connections, and the VGA outer shielding to ground. Connect the monitor cables to the VGA connections on the monitor circuit board. Connect the monitor control panel to the portable Xbox circuit board with ribbon cables. Insert the monitor and keyboard into the frame of your case.
