My Xbox 360 Wireless Headset Isn't Connecting to My Xbox

Microsoft makes a wireless headset add-on device for the Xbox 360 game console, allowing you to communicate with people as you play online. When operating correctly, this headset is supposed to pair with your system the same way the included wireless controller does. If the headset doesn't pair with the Xbox system, this is a good indication that you're doing something wrong as the unit is specifically designed to work with the Xbox 360.

  Check for any available "Dashboard" updates. With your Xbox 360 console connected to the Internet, select "Xbox Live" to log into Microsoft's online service. This will automatically check to see whether console updates are available, at which point they will be downloaded and installed. These updates improve your console's ability to communicate with peripherals like the headset, and if you're running an older Xbox 360 you may not actually be able to use the headset at all until you update.

  Disconnect your Xbox 360 wireless controllers before attempting to connect the wireless headset. The Xbox 360 can have a maximum of four wireless devices connected to it at a single time, which means that if you want to use the headset you can only have three additional controllers connected to your Xbox 360. If you have four controllers connected to the console, the wireless headset won't connect because there isn't enough room for it to do so.

  Make sure that your Xbox 360 is facing outward toward the room that you're sitting in. The wireless transmitter that connects your Xbox 360 to wireless devices like the headset and the controller is built into the front of the device. If you have set your Xbox 360 against a wall or set a big, heavy object in front of it, the console may have a hard time connecting with the wireless headset, and if it does, reception may be of a lesser quality than what you would expect.
