How to Get Rid of Scratches From Xbox Discs

The Xbox is a sixth-generation video gaming console manufactured by Microsoft. Although the Xbox console was discontinued in 2006, many gamers still use the system to play video games. All games that came with the Xbox came in the form of discs similar to CDs or DVDs. Whether heavy use or accidental scratching caused damage to your Xbox disc, there are several techniques that you can implement to try to remove the scratches from the discs and restore regular game operation.

Instructions

Moisten a clean, cotton cloth with a few drops of water. Gently rub the cloth over the readable surface of the game disc, especially over areas where there are small or faint scratches and smudges. Do not use linen or wool cloths, as these fabrics can add additional scratches to the disc. Always drag the cloth from the center of the disc directly out to the edge. Never rub around the disc in a circular fashion, as it could damage the contents on the disc.

Add a few drops of water directly to the disc's readable surface. Slowly scrub the disc with an eyeglass sponge. Do not press too hard with the sponge, as the sponge surface can also scratch the disc. Try to scrub only over areas where you can see scratches. Press the sponge lightly over the scratch and gently but quickly drag the sponge across the scratch. Repeat this process several times until you see the scratch fade.

Apply a stick-on disc cleaner to the disc if scratches are still present. You can find a variety of disc cleaners and stick-on disc cleaners at most electronics stores. Stick the cleaner to the disc. Once you have flatted it against the readable side of the disc, gently peal away the strip. This is a good option for deep scratches. You can repeat this process several times to try to remove multiple scratches.

Add a few drops of a disc cleaner or scratch remover to a clean, cotton cloth. You can find a variety of brands of disc cleaners and scratch removers from many electronics and home goods stores. While these are more expensive than trying to remove scratches with a cloth and water, if your game disc has a deep scratch, using a scratch remover may be your best option. Always follow the directions on the product label, but as a general rule, scrub the disc gently with the cotton cloth until the scratch is gone.
