How to Fix an Xbox 360 With Sound But No Video

If you can hear the audio from your Xbox 360 but cannot actually see an image on your television set, this means that the console is hooked up incorrectly. Audio is being passed successfully by the system but the video is not making its way to the television set for some reason. Some basic troubleshooting can get both the audio and video working on your Xbox 360 simultaneously.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your Xbox 360 to your television by inserting the plugs on both ends of the cable into the cable inputs on the rear of each device. Because the audio on the console is working, this proves that audio cables are connecting the system to the television. However, a separate cable for video must also be connecting the system to the television, if you are to receive video signals from your console.

Change your television set to the appropriate input. With your Xbox 360 console powered on, press the "Input" button on the television's remote until you see images from the Xbox 360 appear on screen. Most television sets have separate "Input" channels used to display the content from external devices, and if you aren't tuned to the appropriate channel (but your Xbox 360's audio is hooked up to something like a home theater receiver) this could result in you hearing but not seeing the video.

Plug the Xbox 360's audio and video cables into the same input on the back of your TV set. Each labeled input on the back of your television has have plugs for both audio and video. Both the audio and video cables must be plugged into the same input label. If your audio cables are plugged into "Input 1" but your video cables are plugged into "Input 2," this could result in you seeing but not hearing your Xbox 360.
