How to Make an XBox Emulator Disc

Using emulators with the Xbox will allow you to play games designed for use with other gaming consoles, such as the PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, or even classic platforms such as the Atari or Commodore 64. Emulators allow you to use hardware in the Xbox to simulate the operating environment of the gaming console you wish to emulate. You cannot load or run emulators from a disc other than the Xbox hard drive. ROM files, on the other hand, can load and run from CDs, DVDs or even USB flash drives. ROMs are the actual files the emulator uses to load the game. ROM files can take up a significant amount of hard drive space on an Xbox, so storing your ROM files on a DVD is a good way to save space for emulators and other files that cannot run from an external disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Download ROM files for an emulator installed on your Xbox (see Resources).

    • 2

Browse to the folder where you saved the ROM files for the emulator on your Xbox. Open each file individually in Windows Notepad (right-click the file, then click "Open with/Notepad"). Once Windows Notepad opens, click "Edit/Find" on the menu bar. Enter "/emulators/Roms" in the search box, and then click "Find." Change all instances of "/emulators/Roms" in the ROM file to "D:/emulators/Roms." Click "File/Save" to save the changes to the ROM file in Notepad.

    • 3

Launch your CD/DVD burning application. Insert a DVD-R type blank disc into the DVD burner driver of your computer (other types of DVD discs may not work in most Xbox consoles).

    • 4

Launch the CD/DVD burning program on your PC. Click the "Create Data Disc" or "Copy Files to CD/DVD" option button. When the "Add Files" or "Add Files and Folder" window appears, browse to the folder that contains the ROM files you want to use on the Xbox. Drag and drop the ROM files into the "Burn" folder in the browser window.

    • 5

Click the "Burn," "Burn It" or "Write" button on the CD/DVD burning application menu bar. Wait while the program burns the ROM files to the DVD disc and ejects the drive tray. Remove the copied DVD disc from the burner drive.
