Xbox 360: How to Repair a Red Ring with One Light

Microsoft's Xbox 360 video gaming system features a ring of four LED lights situated around the power button on the front of the console. When a problem occurs with the Xbox 360, the LED lights flash red to warn the owner. The number of red lights that light up indicates the type of problem, which can range from simple connectivity issues to more severe hardware failure. If your Xbox 360 flashes only one red light, then the problem likely stems from the power cord not being plugged in securely. You can correct the problem very quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Xbox 360 console.

    • 2

Unplug the power cord from the back of the console. Disconnect the power supply unit and remove the plug from the wall outlet.

    • 3

Reconnect the power cord to the power supply unit, making sure it is firmly in place. This connection can easily be pulled out of place and is a common cause of Xbox 360 power problems.

    • 4

Reconnect the power cord to the Xbox 360 console and plug back into the wall socket.

    • 5

Turn on your Xbox 360 console. If the red light occurs again, repeat the process. If your console still doesn't work, you need to request a repair from Microsoft's online support site.
