How to Upgrade an Xbox 360 HDD

Depending on your Xbox 360 hard drive, you may have plenty of extra space to install games and download media. But if you have one of the early hard drive models, such as the 20 GB version, you may constantly be cramped for space and might want to upgrade to a larger version. Microsoft allows you to manually remove and install a new hard drive in any Xbox 360.

Instructions

  1. New Xbox 360

    • 1

      Power off the Xbox 360.

    • 2

Locate the hard drive door on the right side of your console.

    • 3

Push and slide the eject button toward you. The door disconnects from the Xbox 360, revealing your hard drive.

    • 4

Pull the hard drive out of the console by grasping the removal tab and pulling it out.

    • 5

Install your new hard drive by pushing it into the console's hard drive bay until locking, indicated by a clicking noise.

    Original Xbox 360

    • 6

      Power off the Xbox 360.

    • 7

Locate the hard drive, positioned externally on the left side of your console.

    • 8

Press and hold the hard drive's removal button, then pull the hard drive off the console.

    • 9

Align the new hard drive and push the rear end down first.

    • 10

Press the front end of the hard drive down until it locks, indicated by a clicking noise.
