How to Make a Wi-Fi Adapter for an Xbox 360

One of the most popular aspects of Microsoft's Xbox 360 is the Xbox Live Marketplace. On Xbox Live, you can play with other gamers, chat with others and rate video games, all from your Xbox. To access Xbox Live, you need to get your Xbox online. While you are able to hook up your console using Ethernet cable, many homes have their routers far away from the Xbox 360, requiring you to weave Ethernet cable throughout your house. If you don't want hundreds of feet of cable in your home, you can build your own wireless adapter for your Xbox 360.

Things You'll Need

  • Ethernet Cable (3 Feet)
  • DD-WRT Wireless Router
  • Xbox 360

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a wireless router with DD-WRT firmware already installed. This firmware will allow the router to receive a wireless signal, giving your Xbox 360 a connection to the Internet.

    • 2

Connect your DD-WRT router to your computer. Launch your Web browser, and type in 192.168.1.1 into the URL search box. A website will open, and ask for a user name and password; the user name is "root," and the password is "admin."

    • 3

Click on the "Settings" tab on the DD-WRT website, and change the router to a "client mode wireless" mode. This will allow the router to receive wireless signals from other routers.

    • 4

Remove the DD-WRT router from the computer, and plug it into your Xbox 360 using the Ethernet cable.

    • 5

Turn your Xbox 360 on, and check for an Internet signal. You will now be able to use Xbox Live.
