  Limit your play time with the console to several hours. The longer you play on the system, the more heat will build up.

  Remove the power cord from the back of the console and allow it to sit unpowered when not in use.

  Place a portable house fan near and pointing at the back or sides of the Xbox 360. This will help the console to cool off at a faster pace.
