How to Install Flash Drives Firmware for the 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360 console offers a hard drive for storage, memory card, online game play and a DVD drive for games and movies. "Flashing" is the process of installing new firmware onto the DVD drive. You can do this in a few simple steps with free online flashing software to install custom firmware updates.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx screwdriver (size 7)
  • SATA cable
  • Computer
  • .BIN flashing program (JungleFlasher)

      Pull off the faceplate from the front of the Xbox 360. Remove the plastic tabs on the outer shell and lift the outer case from the console. Remove the Torx screws from the top of the metal interior case with the Torx screwdriver. Pull open the metal cover. Remove the SATA cable from the DVD drive. Attach the SATA cable from the DVD drive to the computer. Turn the PC on.

      Download and install the JungleFlasher application to the computer (see Resources). Follow all prompts to complete the installation. Reboot the computer if necessary. Launch the JungleFlasher application. Select "Flash Xbox 360 DVD Drive" at the main menu. Locate the Xbox 360 you have connected and select "OK." JungleFlasher will flash the console's DVD drive .BIN firmware.

      Exit out of the JungleFlasher application when the flashing process has completed. Disconnect the SATA cable from the 360 DVD drive to the computer. Reattach the SATA cable between the Xbox console to the DVD drive. Place the metal cover back and refasten the Torx screws with the Torx screwdriver. Reattach the outer shell and faceplate. Reattach all power and video cables. You have now installed flash drives firmware for the 360.
