How to Connect an XBox to a PC for Backup

Perhaps you think the memory on your Xbox 360 is filling up, or that at any moment a critical error could wipe out all the information saved to the hard drive. In these cases it might be a good idea to use a PC to backup your game files. Backing up Xbox 360 files on a PC can prevent a cataclysmic data loss and free up space you were using to save games you don't play much anymore.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Xbox gaming console.

    • 2

Remove the Xbox hard drive. The hard drive is located either on the top or left of the console, depending on its orientation. Press the button in front of the hard drive, and lift the drive away from the machine.

    • 3

Install "Xchange 360" on your computer. Insert the program disc included with the kit in your computer's disc drive, and follow on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.

    • 4

Connect the Xbox hard drive to the USB dock from the transfer kit, and plug the dock's cable into an open USB port on your PC. The drive should be detected and booted automatically.

    • 5

Copy the files from the hard drive to the PC by dragging and dropping them onto your computer's desk top.
