How to Use Cheats in Call of Duty 4 & Still Get Achievements

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" is a 2007 first-person shooter from Activision that was enormously popular among fans and reviewers. As the title indicates, the game moves from the franchise's World War II staple setting and places you in a modern storyline as British and American forces cooperate against terrorism around the world. After you beat the game, cheats become available as you collect enemy intel in various levels. If you use the cheats, the Xbox 360 disables all achievements. With a little planning, you can use cheats to your advantage and give yourself an edge to earn achievements.

Instructions

  Figure out which cheat you want to earn. There are 37 achievements in the game, some of which you can earn in any level, and others are specific to certain levels. See Resources for a list of the Xbox 360 achievements.

  Get to the level you want or need to earn the achievement in.

  Play the level with the cheats on to plan out how to best earn the achievement. Enemies will be in the same place each time you play through the level, and they'll have the same weapons, so you can plan out the best approach when you can't use cheats. For your first run-through, you can use "Cluster Bombs" and "Slow-Mo Ability" to work through levels more easily.

  Restart the mission and leave the cheats off (they default to off). Use your preparation from using the cheats to earn the achievement or achievements. Especially helpful tactics are using your knowledge of enemy locations to toss frag grenades and flashbangs, even before you've seen the enemy.

  Turn the cheats back on after your Xbox notifies you that you earned the achievement.
