How to Drive the Helicopter in Grand Theft Auto 4 for the Xbox 360

Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" series lets its players live a simulated life of crime. In addition to missions, the games also focus on letting players explore freely. In "Grand Theft Auto 4" on the Xbox 360, this freedom reaches a new level with the ability to fly helicopters around the city. After reaching a certain point in the game, flying a helicopter only requires finding one and learning the controls.

Instructions

  Progress through GTA 4's storyline until you can enter Happiness Island. You can get there after progressing through the story missions on the second main island.

  Travel to Happiness Island. The only ways you can reach the island are by swimming or taking a boat. Once you have access to helicopters, you can return there by air more easily.

  Travel to the far east side of Happiness Island and find the Helicopter Tours building. Walk up to a helicopter and press "Y" to steal it. The area has little security, so you can take the helicopters without risk.

  Hold the right trigger button to start lifting off. Control your flight with the left analog stick. Push forward on the stick to fly straight, but press lightly in all directions to keep the helicopter level.

  Move the analog stick left or right to turn the helicopter, using slow motions to keep the machine steady.

  Press the left trigger to descend. Gently move downward toward a flat area in order to land the helicopter.
