How to Perform Maintenance on Your XBox 360 Storage Devices

Many current generation game consoles, such as the XBox 360, are much more like computers than their predecessors. As such, their memory storage devices get cluttered, which is detrimental to performance. If you notice your XBox system lagging, freezing up or exhibiting any other strange behavior, you should perform a little maintenance on it to get it back in working order. Clearing the cache on your storage devices will improve performance and free up space so you can download more patches and software later.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on your XBox 360 and flip through the menu screens using the directional until you find the "My XBox" menu set. Scroll all the way to the right until you reach the "System Settings" menu and press the "A" button.

    • 2

Scroll through the options in the System Settings menu until you find "Memory" and press "A."

    • 3

Highlight the storage device you want to perform maintenance on and press the "Y" button. Scroll down to the "Clear System Cache" button. You will see a message that asks, "This will perform maintenance on your XBox 360 storage device. Do you want to continue?" Highlight "Yes" and press "A."
