Plug in both the TV and Xbox and turn them on. You'll want to have your devices on while you connect them so that you can tell instantly if you've succeeded. This is safe for both you and the machines, so don't worry. Keep in mind that you won't see any picture on your television yet.
Plug the large, gray A/V cables that came with the Xbox 360 into the back of the console where indicated. On the side of the cable head should be a little toggle switch that has two settings: "SDTV" and "HDTV." SD is standard definition signal, which comes from the composite video cables (yellow, red, white), and HDTV comes through the component cables (red, green, blue). If you want HD, set the switch to HD and find your component cables. Turn the TV around so that you can see the back and look for the component jacks for HD video. These will be marked as "component 1" or "component 2" on the back of the TV, and will be red, blue and green. Plug in your component cables from the Xbox, matching the cables to the color of the jacks. Remember that the component video cables carry picture only. To get sound, you'll need to plug in the composite red and white cables right next to the component jacks you just used. If you want SD, flip the switch to that and find your composite cables and the composite video ports. Follow the instructions above, except using the yellow, red and white cables and ports. To use HDMI, remove the gray A/V cable and plug the HDMI cable into the specified port, then find the HDMI input on the back of your TV and connect the other end.
Press the input button on your TV remote until you find the Xbox's input. This will probably be "component 1" or something similar. The TV should blink and if you've done everything right, you should see the Xbox's start-up screen.
Select the correct resolution (this only applies if you've set up the Xbox for HD). A Samsung 550-series TV has a maximum HD resolution of 1080p, but the Xbox may not be set for this resolution internally. Turn on your Xbox controller and make sure it is connected to the console (either wirelessly or through the included cable). Then hit the center silver button on the controller and scroll right on the screen until you find the "settings" option. Highlight that entry and hit "A." This will bring you to the system settings menu. Scroll down until you find "display options." Hit "A" on this entry and you should be able to select the television resolution. Select 1080p, hit "OK" and the screen will blink and change and should then be formatted correctly.
