How to Get Xbox 360 Guitar to Work for Guitar Hero 3 on PC

The playing experience of Guitar Hero is enhanced by the guitar controllers for the Xbox 360. Guitar Hero is also available for the PC. The game is playable with a keyboard, but the experience is not quite the same. Guitars made for the Xbox 360 are also usable on most PCs. Switching platforms requires only a software download and a free USB port on the computer. Wireless guitars can also be used with the purchase of a wireless controller receiver from Microsoft.

  Download and install the Xbox controller software from the link in the resources section.

  Plug the USB plug on the guitar into a USB port on the computer. If the computer does not recognize the controller immediately, check the settings in the game controllers menu of the Windows control panel. Enable the guitar as an input device. Download any updated drivers that Windows finds.

  Start Guitar Hero 3 and check the settings menu to configure the guitar. Control settings can be changed manually in this menu.
