Things You'll Need
Instructions
Reboot the system, and then try to reconnect your controller. Try another controller, to make sure that the problem is with the controller, not with the entire system.
Reconnect the controller, making sure you've pressed the connect buttons on both the front of the Xbox 360 system, and the top of the wireless controller.
Put new batteries or a fresh rechargeable battery pack in your controller. The battery pack is located on the back of the controller; it takes AA batteries, which fit into the compartment that pops off the back. Make sure that the positive and negative ends of the batteries are properly aligned. See resources for tips on installing batteries in your controller.
Check that there aren't already four controllers connected to the Xbox 360 system; the system does not support connections with more than four controllers.
Remove and turn off all controller accessories, such as headsets, and try to reconnect your controller.
Remove all objects from between the Xbox 360 system and the wireless controller. Certain objects, including metals and other wireless communication devices, may impede the connection between system and controller. Xbox 360 metal face plates do not disrupt the connection.
