Instructions
Hold the Xbox guide button on the center of the controller until a pop-up window appears. Select the "Turn off system" option to power down the console.
Inspect the cord connecting the headset to the controller. If there is any physical damage to the cord, or if any wires are showing, it may be necessary to replace the headset.
Press and hold the Xbox guide button on the center of the controller to turn on the console.
Open an application that utilizes the headset, such as the online multiplayer component of a game. If you select an online feature, you may need to sign into an Xbox Live account first.
Disconnect the headset from the port on the bottom of the controller, then plug it back in.
Check the "Mute" switch on the headset and verify that mute is not enabled. On most headsets, this is indicated by a microphone symbol.
Turn the volume level to its maximum level using the wheel on the bottom of the headset.
