How to Use a Controller on Grand Theft Auto 4

Explore the open world of Liberty City in "Grand Theft Auto IV" for the Microsoft Xbox 360. You play as an immigrant trying to make a new life in the United States who gets pulled into a life of crime. The game offers dozens of missions to complete, and you will primarily use controls either on foot or in vehicles. Each of the Xbox 360 controller's buttons offers different functions in the game.

Instructions

- 1
  Drive cars and other vehicles primarily with the trigger buttons on the top of the controller. Use the right trigger to accelerate and the left trigger to brake. Hold the left trigger down to drive in reverse. Use the left stick to steer.

  Fire a gun while in a car by pressing the left bumper. You can rotate the in-game camera and aim with the right control stick. Press in the right stick to look behind you while in a vehicle.

  Change radio stations in the car by scrolling with the left and right buttons of the directional pad. The game features a variety of music and talk radio, including well-known hits.

  Use the cell phone by pressing up on the directional pad. This will allow you to call associates and get missions while on foot or in a vehicle.

  Press the left trigger to lock onto targets and the right trigger to fire your gun while on foot. Release the left trigger and press it again to fire at a different target once the first has been eliminated. You can enter cover to evade bullets by pressing the right bumper. Press "B" to reload.

  Run by holding the "A" button. Tap this button to sprint faster. The "X" button is used to jump or climb, and to kick enemies if they are nearby.

  Cycle through different camera views by pressing the back button. Press start to pause the game.
