How to Transfer the Xbox 360 to a New Xbox Elite

The Xbox Elite is an upgrade from the Xbox 360. It offers better digital resolution and is backward-compatible with most original Xbox 360 games. With the Xbox Elite's data migration kit you can transfer the Xbox 360 data to the Elite's 120GB hard drive. It's a lot faster than transferring the data with a memory card and the migration kit can be downloaded online via the Xbox website.

Instructions

    • 1

Register and complete the online Microsoft form to get the Data Migration Kit for the Xbox Elite (see Resources).

    • 2

Remove all accessories attached to the Xbox Elite. Connect a controller to the Xbox Elite.

    • 3

Turn off the power. Take out the hard drives from the Xbox 360 and Xbox Elite consoles.

    • 4

Install the 20GB hard drive of the Xbox 360 data into the Xbox Elite system. Turn the Xbox Elite on. Verify that the controller is working.

    • 5

Connect the 120GB hard to the rear USB port of the Xbox Elite with the transfer cable that came with the data migration kit.

    • 6

Place the transfer CD into the Xbox Elite CD drive and follow the prompts to complete the data transfer.

    • 7

Disconnect the transfer cable. Remove the 20GB hard drive from the Xbox Elite. Reinstall the Elite's 120GB hard drive. You have now transferred the Xbox 360 to the new Xbox Elite.
