How to Return an Xbox With the Red Ring of Death

When the Xbox 360 video gaming console suffers from a hardware failure, three red lights appear around the power button when turned on. This is commonly known as the Red Ring of Death and is a sign that your Xbox console has malfunctioned and will need to be repaired. Provided your Xbox is still covered by the warranty, Microsoft offers a free returns and repair service. Returning a faulty Xbox console is a simple task.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Xbox Online Service Center" Web page in your Internet browser (see Resources).

    • 2

Click "Start a repair request." If you have not already registered your Xbox console, you will need to do so to be eligible for the repair service. Click "Register Now" when prompted and follow the steps.

    • 3

Fill out the repair request form. You can find the "Error Code" by turning on your faulty Xbox console and making a note of the number displayed on the error screen.

    • 4

Click "Submit" to complete the repair request. Microsoft will send you an email to confirm your order and send you a box in the mail to return your console.

    • 5

Place the faulty Xbox console in the box and seal. Do not include any Xbox accessories in the parcel unless otherwise instructed.

    • 6

Send the parcel back to the Microsoft Repair Center using the supplied address. Your repaired console will be returned within six weeks.
